There were just the ten of us for this months outing...all I can say is that to the ones who didn't play, you missed a course in fantastic condition!
The sun was out, not a cloud to be seen and everything lush and green...fairways were as good as any I've played on and the greens in great nick, I can't comment on the bunkers because for the first time ever I never went in one...happy days.
We had our usual individual comp, but spiced it up with a Ryder Cup style team event i.e 2 teams of 5 playing matchplay based on Stableford scores. We called it the Good Guys against the Bad Guys. The result? Good Guys 4 v 1 Bad Guys...I do like a happy ending!
Sandra ( 34 ) beat Barry ( 24 )...........2 up
Lobo ( 30 ) lost to Steve ( 23 )...........3 and 2....they were Captains for the day
Rob M ( 25 ) beat John M ( 24 )........5 and 3
Martin ( 16 ) beat Richard ( 17 ).......2 up
Taff ( 18 ) beat Adam ( 12 )................4 and 3
As ever, the most important thing is the company. Our little Society has some lovely people, funny, generous and good to be with, there was of course the usual banter and micky taking but all in good fun. Afterwards the presentation of the Maurice Ellis Trophy took place in Bar97 and it was great to see Peter, Katherine, Raffers and Carol in attendance...look forward to seeing you guys playing soon, and thank you so much to Maurice for presenting the winner with his trophy.
Did I mention the winner? I almost forgot...at one stage I did think I was in with a good shout...36pts off 18, but when we got back to the clubhouse I was undone by a great score from Rob Muir who came in with 38pts off 25. Well done young man, you deserved it. Rob also won 2 of the NTP...the other 2? Nobody got on the green.
So basically Rob cleaned up...trophy/cash/tapas vouchers, but fair do's he donated one of the vouchers back for our next outing...cheers Rob, top guy.
Talking points? For me it has to be Steve G losing 11 balls and still winning 3 and 2, that's some going.
Martin and Richard were like a couple of prize fighters...it went down to the last 2 holes.
Myself and Adam had a real ding dong as well...that guy hits a mean ball! But a true sportsman...thanks for your company guys...if you think this format works and you would like to play it again ( maybe with a few tweeks ) let me know.
Player of the Year results will be updated in a few days.
Next month we will be at Miraflores...details on the comp page.
Onwards and upwards
