Captains Welcome
Firstly, a very warm welcome to all Bar 97 Members and Guests. 2025 was my first full year as a member of the society in my role as Vice-Captain. It proved to be a valuable experience, and under the excellent tutelage of Taff I gained an insight into what was needed to fulfil my responsibilities as Captain of this wonderful golf society. Last year also provided me with an opportunity to get to know our members and guests, something which I hope to build on this coming year.
It can feel a daunting task having to organise a years’ golfing activities. However, I am surrounded by people who are supportive and willing to offer advice and help when needed.
I would like to extend a warm welcome to my Vice-Captain, Martin Brennan, someone who is known to many of you. His experience of all things related to golf will be a real asset. A recent member, Robert Muir, has volunteered to take on the role of Handicap Secretary. Thanks Robert!
I cannot let this opportunity pass without saying a huge thank you to Clare Haythorn and John Harrison who are stepping down from their committee roles this year. Both have been past Captains and have contributed greatly to the development of the society. Their hard work and commitment to the society is noted and very much appreciated. I would also like to thank all the other Committee members who have made me feel very welcome.
Finally, a big ‘thank you’ to Taff for offering to continue maintaining the Societies website and to Bob Thompson for sponsoring it this year. Please use it! It’s full of information and easy to navigate around, even for a non-tech person like myself!
I hope you all enjoy your golf this year, remember the laughs and the good shots.
Regards
Charlie

Well done on your first blog Charlie......good luck and best wishes for your coming year.
