Miraflores Report – 31.01.2026
I trust that everyone enjoyed our first outing of the year at Miraflores. The conditions were tough as no maintenance had been carried out on the course for a week due to the adverse weather conditions. The grass on the fairways was long, the greens were slow and that, combined with no buggies on the fairways, made it very demanding. I ached all over on Sunday! On a positive note the sun shone all day.
Congratulations to Peter Bierne for winning the competition with 34 points. I reckon anyone who managed to get 30 points or more did well considering the conditions.
Also, a massive round of applause to Peter for the rendition of ‘The Wonder of You’ after receiving his first place award. Elvis would have been proud!
Thanks also goes to John Cambell who helped the evening along with his round of drinks for everyone after his Hole in One. Well done John!
The highlights for me were seeing how much Mario had improved, his driving was consistent and he hit most fairways. He needs to work on his short game now.
The best player in our team was Sieglinde, her ball striking was excellent and she maintained a competitive spirit throughout, even when tiring towards the end of the round. Well done!
On a personal note, I would like to thank everyone who turned up for my Drive-In. I hit a four iron straight down the middle on the first, probably my only shot of the round. I finished with a measly 24 points and lost 5 balls. Not my best round!
I thoroughly enjoyed my presentation and I hope you all enjoyed your day too. I’m looking forward to seeing you all again at the end of February at Calanova.
Regards
Charlie
Note from Taff: All the Capt's reports are copied and pasted from Charlie's own fair hand. I would just like to say well done Mr Capt, you did a great job!
It's also my pleasure to say well done to a great friend....Peter Beirne, it's been a long time coming but well worth the wait.
The cartoon character is a golfing dinosaur ( Pete's a dinosaur when it comes to technology, haha ), draped in his beloved Irish colours and with no monkey on his back.) For those who don't know the expression "he's got the monkey off his back", it refers to when a burden is lifted as in this instance, this was Pete's first win since the Society started....worth waiting for.
