Well....he's only gone and done it! Lobo the Champion, that's got a ring to it!...a stunning victory at sunny Miraflores. This has to be on a par with Wales winning the rugby World Cup ( at the moment I would settle just for ANY win ), or Man Utd avoiding relegation, Israel winning the Eurovision Song thingy or David stuffing Goliath! More about the main man later.
Twenty four of us set off nice and early on Sat 31st May to Miraflores. The course was in pretty good condition as a result of all the rain we have had, it was hot and very tiring but everyone enjoyed themselves and we had a great turnout at Bar 97 afterwards A full list of winners will be posted under the results section.
We were joined by 6 guests, Geoff Collier from Canada who won one of the prizes but donated it back to the Society, Ian Ramsden who actually suffered from sunstroke, 2 returning guests...Hilde and Kristian from Norway, always good to see them, they were guests of Tone and finally, Wolfgang and Siegelinde from Austria, first timers with Bar97 and who were guests of Steve Griffin. I had a good chat with all of them and it appears they all had a great time...I have to say, there was a real buzz about the place last night and for that I have to thank our members for making our guests feel welcome..VERY IMPORTANT!
It was also great to see Dennis Morgan back in the saddle, we've missed his smiling face, been out poorly for a while but now getting better, welcome back lovely boy and a big welcome back to wife Margaret as well, good to see you both
As usual, we all had stories of missed chances and glorious shots and "if only this or if only that"...it's what makes our outings such fun. Once the comp is finished we all have a tale to tell and friendships are forged over a meal and a glass of wine...priceless.
I took the opportunity to introduce Charlie as next years Capt and after my initial "welcome speech" Charlie took over and did the presentation of prizes, I have to say, he did a great job...we had loads of prizes some of which were sponsored by Sunshine Golf, Bar 97, Pete Rafferty, Johnny H and Bob T...on behalf of our members Muchas Gracias! I feel very confident that we will be in good hands with Charlie ( aka "Slasher"...he's also handicap secretary ).
So, back to that man Lobo...what can you say? Personally I am delighted, every Society needs a Lobo ( maybe we could rent him out!), he's one of these guys who won't let you down, not often in the individual prizes and always has a smile and a joke...a very popular winner and one of the "good guys". Playing off a 31 handicap with a score of 39pts he came home ahead of Troy who scored 36pts off 24 and in 3rd place John ( what pins ) Harrison who scored a very tidy 35 pts off 17.
All I need to do now is to educate him to use the website, otherwise he won't be able to read this blog, I tried to show him last night, it worked, he managed to get on the site but then complained that his info was all in Swedish! and that he couldn't read Swedish...editors note...Lobo is Swedish. Enjoy your moment big guy, you deserve it. Taff
That's about it guys and gals, I will update the Comp results page a little later and also put out the entry list for our next comp which is Santana on 28th June...I have already received 17 requests!
Onwards and upwards
