Couldn't happen to a nicer guy!
Couldn't happen to a nicer guy!

After 6 weeks away and missing the last comp, it was great to get back into the saddle.

Los Lagos it has to be said was in great condition, there was a lot of maintenance work being done on a couple of holes, but that didn't spoil the experience. The course played long, so many par 4's that couldn't quite be reached in regulation....greens were good, bunkers ( of which I can personally testify ) were better than previous years.

The weather of course was warm and there were a lot of tired golfers at the end of the day. I made a prediction beforehand that none of our members would score 36pts and so it proved. Our guest Daniel ( Sandra's son ) scored 37 playing off 28, and that included 3 blobs! Well played young man and great company...talking of which, my team also included Sandra and that mad Scotsman Ricky the Bricky ( just got to love this guy )....we had a great time.

We also had an excellent turnout for the meal afterwards, wonderful to see so many guests supporting the players....this Society has a lovely feel to it....that's down to good people!

I managed to get around and chat to everyone at Bar97 which is always a privilege, what I would like to do for future comps is to get a few stories from our members to help enrich the blogs, and maybe some more photos, starting with Miraflores on 27th Sept.

Right, that now brings me to the part I really enjoy! Announcing the winners.

The team event was won by my guys with 88pts, I have to say I didn't make too much of a contribution to the cause. But as we only had 4 teams I made sure that everyone who played received a prize....that's just my way of saying thanks for supporting the Society.

Team 2 were second with 85pts....team 3 were 3rd with 80pts and team 4 scored 73pts ( I think they only played 9 holes!)

Sandra just snook into 2nd place on the individuals with a tidy 34pts off a handicap of 33, she just pipped Lolli and Tony who both scored 34, but it went to the back 9 countback.

But the winner with a great score of 35pts also off 33 was DENNIS MORGAN! Well done that man....a very popular player who has come back from a long spell on the sidelines to win his first comp with us ( I think ).

He's had some weekend...his team Sunderland also won so we have a very happy bunny. I did try and get AI to do a caricature of him ( photo above )....not too good but at least he is wearing a Sunderland shirt and holding a trophy.

Finally, a big thanks to those who sponsor us, it's always a great help. Thanks Ricky/Clare/Sandra and Bar97 for their genorosity.

And finally, finally....next comp is Miraflores on 27 Sept, we only have 16 spaces and as it's Ryder Cup weekend I'm thinking of having our own Ryder Cup. Get your names down soonest.

Taff

Onwards and upwards.
